About This Experience

This trip starts from Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 93, on Lipari's main street, and runs from the afternoon into the evening. Leaving Lipari, the boat passes the village of Canneto and the old pumice quarries on the island's east coast before crossing to Panarea, about an hour away. Along Panarea's coast it slows past Cala Junco, Caletta dello Zimmari and the Capo Milazzese headland, with a stop for a swim.

The boat then ties up in Panarea's harbour for time ashore, long enough to have lunch and walk the narrow lanes of San Pietro with their small shops and whitewashed houses. Afterwards it circles the islets off Panarea with another swim break and pauses over the so-called boiling sea, where volcanic gas rises through the water in streams of bubbles.

The next leg is to Stromboli, where you land and have free time in the village. You can walk up from the harbour, find a spot on the black sand beach or eat at one of the restaurants near the port. Reviewers who have done the trip describe the island stops as fairly short, so it helps to decide in advance what you want to do with your time.

At sunset everyone reboards and the boat sails past Strombolicchio, the rock stack off Stromboli's north-east coast, then waits in the water facing the Sciara del Fuoco. Whether you see explosions depends on the volcano that evening and on the sea. A glass of Malvasia and local biscuits are served, and the boat runs back to Lipari after dark, about an hour's crossing.

What Travelers Say

An Unforgettable Experience with Captain Dario Our 10-hour Panarea and Stromboli boat tour was truly unforgettable. Captain Dario was incredibly attentive throughout the entire day, always making sure everyone felt safe, comfortable, and happy. He shared fascinating information about everything we saw and impressively translated it into three different languages so that everyone could enjoy the experience. The unbelievable highlight of the day was seeing Stromboli volcano erupt while we sat on the upper deck of the boat, sipping Malvasia and watching the spectacular display. It was a truly priceless experience that we will never forget. The scenery, snorkeling, and time spent on the water were absolutely amazing, but Dario’s kindness and thoughtful care made the day especially memorable. This was so much more than a boat tour it was a once in a lifetime experience that I will treasure forever. I cannot recommend Captain Dario and this excursion highly enough!

A wonderful experience. Organized, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Stops at sea and on the islands that were just the right length, including the stunning view of Sciara del Fuoco with biscuits and an amaro to accompany it. Highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the boat leave from in Lipari?

The listing gives Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 93, Lipari, on the main street of the town, and the trip returns to the same address. The departure time is not stated on the listing, so check your confirmation and arrive a little early to meet the crew before boarding.

Is there a guide on board?

Guiding is listed as not included. The skipper points out the sights from the boat, and reviewers mention commentary given in more than one language, but there is no guide to take you round Panarea or Stromboli. On the islands you explore on your own.

How many swim stops are there?

The listing describes a swim along Panarea's coast near Cala Junco and Capo Milazzese, and another break among the islets after the stop in the harbour. Snorkelling masks are provided. Some reviewers felt the swim stops were few, so this suits people who want a mix of sea and village rather than a full beach day.

Will we see the volcano erupt?

Possibly. The boat stops in front of the Sciara del Fuoco after sunset, which is where Stromboli's explosions are visible from the sea. Activity changes from night to night and the stop depends on the sea, so explosions can't be promised. A glass of Malvasia and biscuits are served while you wait.

Can I eat on the islands?

Yes. The stop in Panarea's harbour is timed for lunch in the village, and on Stromboli you have free time near the restaurants by the port. Food and drinks other than the Malvasia are not included, and the operator suggests bringing your own drinks for the boat.
