From Lipari: Panarea and Stromboli Cruise with Stops

About This Experience
This is a shorter afternoon and evening outing that starts and ends in Lipari, so it suits anyone already staying on the island. Meet at S. Giuseppe 9 about 20 minutes before the start. The motorboat runs along Lipari's pumice quarries and Monte Rosa, then takes about an hour to reach Panarea, stopping for a swim in open water on the way.
Off Panarea the boat looks into the bay of Cala Junco before docking, and the listing allows about an hour and a half of free time to wander the village, though travellers report it can feel closer to an hour. From there the route passes Basiluzzo, the largest of Panarea's islets, and the hamlet of Ginostra on Stromboli's south-west side, before arriving at the main port.
On Stromboli you have roughly an hour and a half or more to walk through the village, look at the shops or swim from the black beach. As the sun goes down the boat circles Strombolicchio, then runs along the Sciara del Fuoco for a stop off the lava slope, with a glass of Malvasia delle Eolie served on board. If the volcano is active, the explosions show up best once it is dark.
The full outing lasts about 7.5 to 8 hours depending on the season, with around two hours of sailing back to Lipari after the Sciara stop. Commentary is in Italian, with only general information given in English, and there is no guide ashore. The boat is shared with a large group, so it can be busy on deck at sunset.

Had the best time! the island are amazing the stromboli eruptions are breathtaking. Would recommend bringing water for the journey in between the islands and especially the journey back. There wasn't much said by the guides, especially not in English. The stops however were great

Absolutely fantastic! Really exciting, interesting trip. Friendly crew, great value for money. Stromboli itself is an incredible sight. Never seen anything like it.

We had an amazing time on the cruise. After boarding the boat we were heading to Panarea where we had 1 hour freetime. As we were with 3 kids we just walked on the shore, had a nice ice cream and played on the cute playground at the harbour. After that we went to Stromboli where we had 2 hours. We played in the water and had a walk on the beautiful black sand beach. After returning to the boat we got a delicious pasta dinner while watching the sunset. When we reached the "dark side" of Stromboli we got to see some bigger eruptions which were really amazing in the darkness. After a half an hour watching Stromboli we were heading back to Lipari. Really good trip, helpful staff on the boat. I would recommend it to everyone!

Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the boat leave from in Lipari?
The meeting point is S. Giuseppe 9 in Lipari, and the trip returns to the same place. The operator asks you to be there 20 minutes before the start time so boarding can run on schedule.
How long do we get on Panarea and Stromboli?
The itinerary lists about an hour and a half on each island. Travellers often report around an hour on Panarea and a little longer on Stromboli, so treat Panarea as a short walk and save swimming for Stromboli or the swim stop.
Is it in English?
The tour is run in Italian, and only general information is given in English. There is no guide on the islands, so it works best if you are happy to explore Panarea and Stromboli on your own.
Will we see Stromboli erupting?
The boat stops in front of the Sciara del Fuoco at dusk, when any explosions are easiest to see. Activity varies from evening to evening and the stop depends on the sea, so eruptions cannot be promised.
Is food included?
No, food and drinks are not included apart from a glass of Malvasia at the Sciara stop. Bring water and snacks for the crossings, or eat in the village on Stromboli; some travellers mention a simple pasta dinner offered on board for an extra charge.
