About This Experience

This full day out of Lipari lands on three islands rather than two. Meet at S. Giuseppe 9 at least 20 minutes before departure. The first stretch depends on the date: from 21 June to 15 September the boat coasts Vulcano's Grotta del Cavallo and the Piscina di Venere, while from 1 April to 20 June and 16 September to 20 October it visits the Faraglioni of Lipari and the Grotta degli Angeli instead. A swim stop comes before landing.

The boat docks at Porto di Levante on Vulcano, where the listing allows about two and a half hours. You can walk into the village and to the beach where hot, sulphurous water bubbles up offshore. Note that the mud pool on Vulcano has closed and reopened more than once in recent years (it reopened in April 2026), so check whether it is open on your date. The crossing on to Panarea takes about two hours, with a second swim stop before you go ashore.

Off Panarea the boat looks into the bay of Cala Junco, then you have around an hour and a half on the island. From there the route passes Basiluzzo, the largest islet, and reaches Stromboli for roughly another hour and a half ashore, time enough for a walk through the village or a swim from the black beach. With food not included, many people eat here before the evening leg.

At sunset the boat circles Strombolicchio while a glass of local Malvasia is served, then stops in front of the Sciara del Fuoco to watch for activity from the sea. The return to Lipari takes about two hours, and the whole day runs from 11 hours up to 12 in high season. Commentary is in Italian with general information in English, and there is no guidance during the stops.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.5/5 by 257 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

It was a wonderful excursion, very well organized, and the people from the organization were friendly. It exceeded my expectations!

Highly recommended activity. Unfortunately, the wind that started to pick up in the afternoon made the sea a bit rough, and the clouds prevented us from seeing the plume of fire from Stromboli... otherwise, excellent service.

A very nice excursion. It was long and challenging due to the heat, but we already knew that! The boat was quite spacious and comfortable, with toilets and a minibar. We were also offered dinner on the boat with pasta and water at a very good price. Adequate restroom breaks and stops at the islands. It's a show to be able to sail at sunset...

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I meet and how early?

The meeting point is S. Giuseppe 9 in Lipari, and the boat brings you back there at the end of the day. The operator asks you to arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Can I bathe in the mud pool on Vulcano?

Possibly. The listing says the pool was closed when it was written, but the mud pool on Vulcano reopened in April 2026 after a closure, and its status has changed several times in recent years. Ask the crew on the morning, and bring a swimsuit you do not mind staining with sulphur.

Which sea caves will we see?

It depends on the date. From 21 June to 15 September the boat visits Vulcano's Grotta del Cavallo and the Piscina di Venere. From 1 April to 20 June and from 16 September to 20 October it goes to the Faraglioni of Lipari and the Grotta degli Angeli.

What time do we get back to Lipari?

The tour lasts a minimum of 11 hours and up to 12 in high season, with about two hours of sailing back from the Sciara del Fuoco. Expect a late evening return, and check the time with the crew on the day.

Will Stromboli be erupting?

The boat stops in front of the Sciara del Fuoco at dusk to watch from the sea. Volcanic activity varies, and cloud or rough sea can cut the stop short, so explosions are possible but never guaranteed.
