From Taormina: Chic Panarea and Stromboli Day Tour

4.3 (523 verified reviews)

About This Experience

The day starts at the Interbus coach terminal on Via Luigi Pirandello in Taormina. A coach takes about an hour and a half to reach Milazzo on the north coast, where you board a shared motorboat with toilets and a bar for the crossing to the Aeolian islands. A tour leader travels with the group, and commentary is offered in English, German and Italian.

The first landing is Panarea, by way of Cala Junco bay and the small Zimmari beach. You have about two hours on the island to walk its narrow lanes, browse the shops around the harbour or sit on one of the beaches. After Panarea the boat cruises around the rocks and islets off the island before heading north to Stromboli.

On the way the boat passes the tiny village of Ginostra, seen from the sea rather than visited. You then land at Stromboli and have free time in and around San Vincenzo, the old centre of the village, until sunset, roughly two and a half hours including the cruise. It is enough for a walk through the village or a look at the black beach.

After dark the boat moves slowly along the Sciara del Fuoco, the steep slope where volcanic material runs down to the sea, so you can watch for explosions from the water. Activity varies from night to night, and this stop depends on the sea and the captain's decision. The boat then returns to Milazzo for the coach back, reaching Taormina around midnight.

What Travelers Say

The overall experience;helped by a calm sea. More information on Stromboli volcano in general would have been good and it was difficult to hear the c9mmentarywhen outside.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect Day Trip to Panarea & Stromboli We had a perfect day on this tour from Taormina to Milazzo, followed by a wonderful sailing excursion to Panarea and later to Stromboli before returning to Milazzo then to Taormina. Everything was well organized, the scenery was breathtaking, and we had plenty of time to enjoy both islands. Panarea was charming and beautiful, while Stromboli was truly unforgettable. A special mention goes to Alessandra, our tour guide, who was fantastic throughout the day. She was friendly, knowledgeable, organized, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and informed. Her enthusiasm and professionalism really enhanced the experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Sicily and wanting to experience the beauty of the Aeolian Islands in a single day!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the tour start?

It starts at the Interbus coach terminal on Via Luigi Pirandello in Taormina. The coach drives about an hour and a half to Milazzo, where you board the boat, and brings you back to the same terminal at the end of the day.

Is the Aeolian landing tax included?

No. The listing names the eco-tax for entering the Aeolian islands as an exclusion, so bring some cash to pay it on the day. Meals and drinks are not included either.

Will I see lava at Stromboli?

You may see explosions from the boat off the Sciara del Fuoco after dark and from viewpoints on the island, but activity varies and cloud can hide the crater. The night stop itself depends on the sea and the captain's call.

Can I eat on the islands?

Yes. Panarea and Stromboli both have bars and restaurants, and you have free time on each. Meals are not included, and takeaway food and drink may not be consumed on board the boat.

What time do we get back to Taormina?

The listing gives a return around midnight. The whole day lasts about 14 hours, with roughly three hours on the coach in total and the rest on the boat or ashore.
